Casa de Hisn Ashar, Iznajar, Cordoba, Spain
Located in the heart of the picturesque Pueblo Blanco of Iznajar, Casa de Hisn Ashar offers a unique opportunity to sample life in this beautiful Spanish town.
Untouched by tourism the town is an excellent base in which to explore this beautiful area of Andalucia. The area is ideal for bird-watching, mountain-biking and walking, with many trails around the lakeside and surrounding mountains.
Accessible via two bridges, Iznajar is is almost entirely surrounded by the Lake of Andalucia, a reservoir stretching out for over 20 miles which offers world-class fishing, water sports and a beautifully clean beach. The water in the lake is warm in the summer months and a swim can prove to be a welcome break from the midday sun.
The town also has a lovely municipal out-door swimming pool just a short walk from the house.
The area is surrounded by an abundance of interesting and historical villages and towns and Iznajar itself boasts one of the oldest Moorish castles in the region as well as ancient churches and an historic library. To eat out in the area you are spoiled for choice as Iznajar and the surrounding area has a wealth of traditional tapas bars and restaurants. Whether you would like to dine at the world famous La Bobidilla Hotel (favourite stay for the likes of King Carlos, Tom Cruise and honeymoon hotel for Brad Pitt and wife) or you would like to mix with some of the ‘Iznajenos’ in a local tapas bar, the choice is endless.
To date Casa de Hisn Ashar is the only house in the town which is available for rent. There are rural houses to rent in the countryside, but often these are fairly remote meaning a car is essential every time you wish to eat out, have a few beers in a local bar, or even stock up on provisions! For those of us who prefer to sample real Spanish life in a warm and friendly Spanish community Casa de Hisn Ashar is perfect. The town has an abundance of shops and tapas bars, and what could be better than taking a stroll out in the evening to a local tapas bar for a few glasses of Tinto Verano without the need to drive home?
Iznajar could not be better placed being just 50 minutes from the bustling Costa del Sol, one hour from Malaga airport, and within easy reach of the historical cities of Granada, Cordoba and Sevilla. The ski resorts of the Sierra Nevada are just 90 minutes away, and golfing facilities are within a 30 minute drive.
